Women's Transitional Housing Program
In addition to developing and maintaining quality affordable housing, WCDO provides a variety of support services to families, individuals and and children in our Transitional Housing Program and in the community.
- Transitional Housing Program
Intensive support services for individuals and families living in Transitional Housing including: - Case management, advocacy;
- Education and community building;
- Social justice activities, including attending rallies, education groups on oppression and systemic change, candidate forums, assisting residents with accessing their local leaders and attending statewide forums on homeless, battering, ect.
- Advocacy and case management, which includes reunification support, parenting, legal, and child support advocacy, ect. Intensive work is done inside the home with focus on healthy family function.
- Advocates act as liaisons between school, parents and child. A variety of children's activities including daily homework club, computer labs and weekly age specific support groups are provided on-site. Children are connected to their greater community through volunteerism and participation in community wide events.
- Advocates assist participants in accessing training and or livable wage employment, increasing skill level and/or income and to comply with mandated welfare reform regulations. Advocates work intensively with residents and provide employment and/or training specific goal development, case management and advocacy. Participants receive on-going support to assist them in maintaining their employment and or training program. Focus is on accessing livable wage jobs, which will sustain their families after exiting Transitional Housing.
- SAFAH:
Follow up program for residents leaving Transitional Housing. Households are assisted with accessing and maintaining permanent housing and transitioning into the larger community. Participants on SAFAH receive advocacy, monthly financial assistance and support for six months after exiting Transitional Housing.
